Located at the top of the Mani between the town of Pirgos Dirou and Areopolis, the Diros Caves are perhaps the most important natural site in Greece and in their own way as spectacular as the caldera of Santorini.
During this tour we visit this unique miracle of nature and we are fascinated by the magic of the color and the beautiful shapes, formed by the stalactites and stalagmites.
Our tour starts with a pick up from Kalamata. After 2 hours of driving we arrive at the entrance of the cave, a few meters above the sea and a beautiful stone beach.
The cave of Diros began to be formed millions hundreds years ago. The main characteristic of the cave is its big and multicolored stalactites and also stalactites that look like representing figures of objects, animals or people. During the boat trip (nearly 1 hour) you can see bibelots of unique beauty like the Episcopal Throne, the Foot of Poseidon, the Stone Lily and a Church entrance with a chandelier and the ambo, the Hall of Diros with the ancient Greek chlamys, the Pink and White Departments with the Harp, the Royal Balcony, the Gate and the Hanging Fox and finally the Chapel.
At the end of this unique experience we will have 1 more hour free time to enjoy a coffee or a lunch at the beautiful coastal village of Kardamili, before we start the trip back to Kalamata.
